Matériel Missives 11 / Holes

Exciting times: I've just wrapped the final chapter of the book! Current word count: 96,964. I'm super excited about the climactic scene and its emotional notes (very different notes from Draft 2)!

It's now time to, generally:

  • Go back through the draft and ensure recent forays, nomenclature, etc., are accurately reflected in the first part of the book (includes making sure to sow the seeds for late-breaking plot points/characters/turns)

  • Write a few chapters I skipped for lack of motivation/clarity

  • Give my poor secondary characters better treatment and light; as of now, they really fall off the page after the 50% mark -- this will probably be the most time-consuming part

  • Write the denouement/epilogue (I agree with some beta readers this needs certain expansion, but ugh, so boring)

  • ???

  • Profit

I estimate we're looking at about 15-20,000 more words, so this thing has a ways to go before completion, but feels good to have reached a known terminus! Now just to fill in the... gosh, what was the name of that book? You know, the one about all the holes?

P.S. Just finished Samuel R. Delany's Dhalgren, and am still somewhat in a liminal post-read state. Wrote a short review of it on Goodreads here, if you're interested.
